Neighbors several blocks away described feeling the concussion from the blast in their homes. Wilson — the neighbor who took the video of the explosion from his roof — described Yoo as a recluse and said he had aluminum foil covering the windows. Police have not yet released any information about the suspect in the case, but a social media account may provide some clues. Patrick Hope (D), who lives in the area, posted on X — formerly Twitter — following the explosion.

In an effort to flush him out, “officers began to deploy nonflammable, less-lethal chemical munitions to multiple areas within the residence where the suspect was believed to be hiding,” Penn said. A house in Virginia exploded Monday night shortly after officers were executing a search warrant at the residence for reports of a person discharging several rounds with a flare gun, officials said. Three officers reported minor injuries and there were no transports to the hospital related to this incident. Three officers reported minor injuries, but none was transported to the hospital. The person had fired the flare gun around 30 to 40 times "from inside his residence into the surrounding neighborhood," police said in a statement early Tuesday.

One pet was found dead inside the house, the Arlington County Fire Department said Wednesday. ARLINGTON, VA — A townhouse in the East Falls Church neighborhood of Arlington was badly damaged by a fire that started late Tuesday night, according to fire officials. Arlington Fire and EMS said the house fire was quickly extinguished. One person was taken to the hospital in “stable condition,” Arlington Fire and EMS said. The Fire Prevention Office is asking anyone that lives in the immediate area with home surveillance equipment to please review their video for any information that could assist with the investigation. Jenkins also noted that authorities turned off gas service to the home about 90 minutes before the explosion.

The authorities said that Mr. Yoo’s only previous encounters with the local police before Monday were related to a couple of noise complaints. But David Sundberg, assistant director in charge of the F.B.I.’s Washington field office, said that Mr. Yoo had submitted tips over the years about “alleged frauds” that he believed had been perpetrated against him. A man was presumed dead after his home in Arlington, Va., exploded into flames and burned for hours on Monday night as the police were preparing to search the house to investigate reports of possible gunfire, the authorities said. The person inside did not respond, and officers were trying to execute the search warrant when "the suspect discharged several rounds, from what is believed to be a firearm, inside the home," police added. Video posted to social media showed a huge fireball and what appeared to be the roof and other debris lofted into the air during the blast, which neighbors said could be heard and felt for miles around in the Washington, D.C., suburb.

House in Arlington, Va., Explodes as Police Prepare to Serve Search Warrant

Residents could hear and feel the explosion for miles around Arlington County, where the average population is over 9,000 people per square mile. Arlington County police have confirmed that James Yoo was the man at the center of the standoff at the Virginia home that exploded Monday night. Officials have not been able to go into the home and could not confirm whether there were any deaths. "Over the years he lived there, I might have seen him three or four times, and [he] always had a backpack," she said. He put foil over the windows, blocked everything and never came out of the house," she told NBC News, estimating the man had lived there for at least five years. "Because his house is usually very neat and clean, always perfectly mowed, and not even a leaf on the ground in fall, and suddenly there was trash everywhere, clothes, things on his roof," Johnston said.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation and authorities are working to collect evidence from the scene. Initial reports suggested a man was holed up in his house, shooting a flare gun out of a window. When they arrived, crews found fire coming from the townhouse, the fire department said. During their search of the house in the Sycamore Heights townhome community, firefighters rescued four pets, including cats.

Fire crews had evacuated other residents of the duplex and surrounding homes starting at around 7 p.m. ET as a precaution, which "saved lives," Arlington County Fire Department Assistant Chief Jason Jenkins told reporters. Three police officers received minor injuries but were not taken to hospitals, the department said. Officials are unaware of anyone else who was hurt, they said at a news conference. At Tuesday’s briefing, Jenkins said investigators have not ruled out chemical munitions as a possible contributor to the explosion. David Sundberg, the No. 2 official in the FBI’s Washington Field Office, said Yoo had repeatedly contacted the bureau “via phone calls, online tips and letters over a number of years,” complaining of fraud. Sundberg declined to detail the complaints but said none of them prompted the FBI to open an investigation.

On Tuesday, officers wearing Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives jackets combed a nearby street looking through papers scattered in the debris field. Junk mail carrying Yoo’s name and the address of the home that exploded was visible on the street. An investigation into the cause of the explosion is ongoing, fire officials said. Police asked that anyone with photos or video of the area share them with investigators. As officers breached the door to enter the home, the suspect fired multiple gunshots from within the house, Penn said. He said it wasn’t clear where in the house the shots were coming from or what the suspect was firing at.

The FBI in Washington was assisting in the investigation, a spokesperson for the agency's field office there said. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also said it had fire investigators at the scene ready to assist. ARLINGTON, Va. — The Virginia man whose house in suburban Washington, D.C., blew up had a history of making unsubstantiated complaints that he had been defrauded, and just days before the explosion he claimed on social media that his neighbors were spies. "We were attempting to make contact with the individual when shots were discharged inside the residence."

And Mrs. Smith” — after the film in which Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie played a spy couple — and claimed his neighbors were surveilling him. He denied having written such a note or having suicidal thoughts and accused the hospital, his wife and sister of holding him there against his will. A judge ordered Yoo to sell the Arlington property that exploded Monday by late October 2020 as part of the asset distribution in the divorce.

District Court for the Western District of New York, Yoo filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against a hospital in 2018, claiming he was hospitalized against his will in 2015. In 2021, he sued his ex-wife’s divorce attorneys for $300 million, accusing them of fraud, intentional infliction of emotional distress and other offenses. The complaints did not lead to the FBI opening any investigations, according to Sundberg, who did not provide any further details on the alleged claims. "There is no ongoing threat to the community related to this incident and no outstanding suspects," Penn said during a press briefing on Tuesday. Arlington County Police Chief Andy Penn said human remains were recovered from the scene but have not yet been identified.

At the scene, crews discovered a small fire, as well as a destroyed privately owned outdoor book collection box – a Little Free Library. On Wednesday, the fire department responded to the 100 block of North Columbus Street for a reported fire outside. ARLINGTON, Va. — The Arlington Fire Department has opened an investigation into a series of small explosions that destroyed a privately owned outdoor library and damaged an amphitheater this week. All crimes are alleged and all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. “Come to the front door with your hands up,” someone can be heard saying in the video. An hourslong standoff in a quiet neighborhood preceded the explosion.

Craig Kailimai, special agent in charge of the Washington field division for the ATF, said investigators were conducting a “grid search” of the home to determine the cause and origin of the explosion. Investigators have not yet identified human remains found inside the home, but “all factors point to that it’s this individual (Yoo),” Penn said. "With social media, you hear all of the stories, and I don't know if everything is true or not. I've been following that. There's still questions," With said. 7News obtained video of those late afternoon flares from Sarah Wilhoite, who saw this happen with her roommate.

Arlington Fire Department investigates small series of explosions

The suspect -- identified as 56-year-old James Yoo -- was the only person inside the residence at the time of the explosion and is presumed to be dead, Penn said. The suspect, who was inside the Arlington duplex at the time of the explosion, is presumed dead, authorities said. A man named James Yoo, listed in public records as the resident of the address to which police were initially dispatched, has been repeatedly posting paranoid screeds on his Linkedin account.

Business Tangible Tax Return Deadline

"We are aware of concerning social media posts allegedly made by the suspect, and these will be reviewed as part of the ongoing criminal investigation," Penn said. With his cellphone's camera, Wilson captured video of the inferno, which has been replayed countless times on local news stations. He said he heard police announce they were going to try to ram the front door, so he went on his roof to start recording.

They left and returned with body armor and a warrant to seize weapons Yoo may have had. Other neighbors heard the commotion from officers trying to bring Yoo into custody. In an effort to compel Yoo to surrender, Penn said the officers deployed "nonflammable, less-lethal chemical munitions" where Yoo was believed to be hiding. The authorities said James Yoo, 56, was believed to have died when his home exploded as the police were preparing to search the residence on Monday night.

Even on LinkedIn, he shared paranoid rants about a former co-worker and said his neighbour was a spy. Most homes in the north Arlington suburb – Bluemont, where the shooting occurred- are two attached units or “duplexes”. The house was in the 800 block of North Burlington Street in Arlington, Virginia, police said.

“We have not been able to access the home at this point, so I don’t have the status of the suspect,” said Ashley Savage, a spokeswoman for the Arlington County Police Department, by phone. The man was “believed to be inside the residence at the time of the explosion.” The investigation into the explosion is ongoing, the police said in the statement. Yoo, who inherited the house from his parents, stated in unsuccessful legal filings over the years that he had long suffered from alcoholism. Arlington County Police Chief Andy Penn said at a news briefing Tuesday that the investigation of the explosion was ongoing and that the Virginia medical examiner’s office had yet to positively identify the person whose remains were found. A duplex, where a suspect was involved in an ongoing incident with police, exploded in a massive fireball as police, including a SWAT armored vehicle, moved in.

One post from three days ago rants against his neighbors in the adjoining duplex unit. Alex Wilson, the neighbor who took the video seen above — and shared worldwide on social media tonight — told ARLnow that the resident of the home was firing a rifle at police as they used the SWAT vehicle to try to get inside. Investigators are looking into a reported explosion that happened Saturday morning at an Arlington home that was under construction, officials said. Another Instagram post from the same account, citing a different source, also blamed the blast on an alleged firefight.

BREAKING: Large house explosion in Bluemont amid police incident

A house in Arlington, Va., exploded into flames on Monday night while the police were preparing to search it after reports of gunfire and a standoff with the man who lived there. Carla Rodriguez of South Arlington went to the scene after she heard the blast more than 2 miles away, but she was kept away by police. While the cause of the explosion is still under investigation, the blast appears to have permanently shaken some neighbors.

It followed the suspect repeatedly firing a flare gun over nearby Fields Park. Fire department crews are still assessing the damage to the home and other surrounding homes to determine if the area is safe. Atmos Energy said its technicians were called to the scene to check on the company's system in the area, and the Railroad Commission of Texas said Monday it is also investigating the explosion. On Monday night in Arlington County, in the US state of Virginia, at least 30 shots were fired inside a residence.

No public record could be found indicating that a sale took place. Stephanie Yoo and a divorce attorney who represented her did not respond to requests for comment Tuesday. About 10 households were impacted by the incident, authorities said. Right before the explosion, police were using "nonflammable" chemical munitions to draw the suspect out of the home, Penn said.

"And it was just very unusual. And before we even got the chance to make a welfare check call, there were flares going up and the police were already there." In a LinkedIn post Friday, Yoo appeared to accuse his neighbors of being spies. In his social media writings, Yoo called himself an independent and posted ranting hashtags calling for defunding the FBI, the CIA and the National Security Agency. The cause of the explosion is still unknown and under investigation. Records show he sold a property in McLean, Va., for $1 million in 2021, after being ordered to do so by a judge in his divorce case. “It just rocked our house,” said Suzanne Sundburg, 62, who lives a few blocks away and was working at home with her husband Monday afternoon when she started hearing “a strange thumping” that preceded the blaze.

Two other nearby homes received moderate damage stemming from the fire, which was extinguished by Sunday morning and still under investigation, Allen said. Arlington County Police Chief Andy Penn said police went to the home after James Yoo, 56, fired a “flare-type gun” into the neighborhood more than 30 times from within the house. Stunning video shows a home exploding into flames and collapsing as debris flies more than two stories into the air. The blast occurred as police investigated someone shooting flares into a residential area near Ballston. The explosion occurred in Bluemont, a neighborhood in north Arlington where many of the homes are duplexes.

The World of Barbie is an immersive experience in Los Angeles where fans get to celebrate the many career and lifestyle iterations of the iconic doll. I took my Barbie obsessed 4-year-old daughter, and even though she'll be too young to enjoy the upcoming fantastical comedy Barbie, it turns out no one is too young (or old) to have some fun in Barbie's world. During our one-hour stroll through the 20,000 square-foot attraction, I was reminded why Barbie hasn't gone out of style for 64 years. While I certainly had some flashbacks from childhood, it was pretty special to watch my daughter live out her current dream. Next, we moved into a room with a big Barbie camper and watching the joy on my little girl's face certainly brought out all the feels.

On this particular Wednesday, the crowd was diverse — much like Barbie nowadays. There were several moms with their kids, some groups spanning four generations. Influencer-types taking selfies in Barbie's closet. (Some even had professional photographers trailing them around the space.) There were several people, women and men, dressed as Barbie themselves. By the end of my visit, I saw every age, gender and race represented in the crowd.

She made herself right at home — as she should since we play Barbie hours upon hours every week. She relaxed on a hammock, pretended to drive the vehicle and honked the horn. Plenty of other people lined up to do the same.

Photos and videos of your experience are encouraged. Do not enter World of Barbie if you do not wish to be subject to the foregoing. Interactive installations will span from visiting Barbie's Dreamhouse and checking out her iconic outfits in her walk-in closet to boarding a Barbie space shuttle where you can interact with mission control and "travel" to several interstellar destinations.

Lift and lower Barbie® doll and her friends in the working elevator, fill the pool with water to make a splash, soak up some sun on the third-floor balcony and rooftop deck, and host a pet playdate with a puppy pool and slide. -- feature realistic touches and textures that bring any Barbie® story to life. With cool customizations and so many storytelling opportunities, kids ages 3 years old and up will move right into the Barbie® Dreamhouse® and make it their own!

"But her legacy exists because she's evolved through the years. Like they just released a Barbie with Down syndrome. That's awesome." "I think people are loving it because you capture that feeling of childhood. That's why some people are here," a staff member in charge of the area told me. "Barbie is nostalgic." After welcoming more than 100,000 guests at its Toronto location, World of Barbie made its U.S. debut Friday in Santa Monica.

What is minimalist design? Full guide & examples

minimalism design

When it comes to minimalist interior design, selecting the right lighting fixtures is crucial in achieving a harmonious and sophisticated look. Implementing practices like the 'one in, one out' rule helps prevent the accumulation of excess items, ensuring a streamlined and clutter-free home. By prioritizing quality over quantity, you can achieve a purposeful and organized living space that reflects a true embrace of minimalist principles. Let's embark on a journey to effortlessly clear surfaces, purposefully organize, and embrace a mindset of simplicity in our minimalist interior design quest.

Examples of Minimalist Decor That Prove Less Is More

Setting them up is a breeze too; simply use hooks, adhesive tabs, or strings for quick and effortless hanging. Get ready to impress your guests with these eerie additions to your indoor or outdoor decorations. These options not only offer convenience but also lend a touch of elegance to any space. With minimal effort, these floors can stay looking pristine, allowing you to enjoy your surroundings without the worry of extensive maintenance. Mimicking the natural textures of hardwood or stone, Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) offers a realistic and stylish flooring solution for both residential and commercial spaces. With his deep knowledge of home decor and his innate sense of style, Ron brings a wealth of expertise and a keen eye for detail to the ByRetreat team.

Modern Minimalist Bedroom

"The chase has an unintended purpose—that of a visual barrier, thus blocking a direct view into the workings of the busy open plan kitchen," says Weinreich. For example, minimalist furniture does not have frills and is known for featuring basic elements. This is also seen in a minimalist interior design as you will only see the necessary furniture. For a minimalist bedroom, you should only have the items you need such as a bed, dresser and maybe a reading chair if you find that necessary in your space.

These pieces blend seamlessly into minimalist interiors, offering practical solutions while maintaining the sleek and uncluttered aesthetic desired in modern homes. A low-profile platform bed with a basic headboard makes the most of this tiny bedroom. Neutral accessories, including painted animal art and a flat-panel dresser, blend with white walls to keep the room uncluttered. A large pendant spray-painted to give the illusion of copper provides a funky focal point. Whether used in an entryway, foyer, or dining room, tulip tables provide the perfect touch of minimalist decor. Pair one with retro furniture for a midcentury look or rush chair seats for a farmhouse twist.

Even though it may not look like a minimalist space in the traditional sense, the room can still follow many core principles of the movement—peaceful, purposeful, uncluttered—and remain true to you. “We approach minimalism as a desire to be mindful,” Clarke adds, which can be achieved in many different ways. In a minimalist design, an empty space works just like a form of a design element as accessories and furniture.

minimalism design

Minimalist graphic design uses typography and design elements with a purpose to create a simple and usable visual display. Contrary to popular opinion, minimalism is not just stripping all of the “design” out of a project. The use of a minimalist direction in addition to a functional and user-friendly website is an excellent solution for online stores. See how easy it is to read the information, but the use of a white background does not make the design too simple. Neutral colors that are close to the environment are a new trend in minimalist design. If earlier all shades were cold and had a computer grayness, today the opposite effect is evident.

A capiz shell chandelier sparkles overhead without distracting from expansive views. Find unexpected satisfaction in your home's hardworking office with pretty wood beams. Refashioned oak and pine beams from a train station become floating shelves above a classic marble-top iron table. A painted white chair and neutral keepsakes are minimalist decor that joins the converted storage for a work zone that's cool, calm, and collected.

Square shelving and ceiling panels enhance the eye-pleasing geometrical design. Thoughtfully curated books and small accessories add color to the otherwise neutral room. Arrange just a few noteworthy furniture pieces from different periods and design styles to build interest without cluttering your minimalist decor. Here, rawhide-strap chairs partner with an antique plank-top table at the roomy banquette, while bamboo barstools add natural texture nearby.

Kaleidoscope of minimalist trends awaits to transform your home into a modern sanctuary—discover the secrets to sleek, serene living spaces. Carefully curated accessories, like a geometric lamp base and simple wooden planter, fill the space with just enough visual interest. A molded seat with polished chrome hardware makes it easy to enjoy the view from floor-to-ceiling windows framed in black metal. Upholstered chairs and a round tulip table beautifully juxtapose an angular banquette.

If you prefer something milder in flavor, the salmon and avocado crudo never gets old. That said, the warm bread and seaweed butter is a decadent appetizer that everyone will love. Chrissy has always been the heart and soul of Sea Island and will be greatly missed by those closest to her and her large network of restaurant family.

Chef Gilberto Cetina draws inspiration from his own childhood and has crafted a menu filled with dishes inspired by coastal Mexican culinary traditions. Diners sit on stools directly across from the chefs that prepare their meals, separated only by the glass case that keeps each ingredient fresh. Eating at Providence is an event—you’ll be there for at least three hours experiencing one of their multi-course tasting menus. There’s a man who will prepare your salt-baked Santa Barbara spot prawns tableside, a cheese cart, and a packaged sweet brioche to take home for breakfast the next day. But Providence does event eating in a way that doesn’t feel pretentious, and does feel like it’s worth the money. The food itself is imaginative and delicious, and can involve everything from abalone and geoduck to more familiar things like rockfish.

Dear Josh,It is quite hard to put every animal-animal, plant-animal, plant-plant relationship into a system invented by humans. For one thing, each relationship is probably slightly different and for another there are probably examples which straddle some of the boundaries between different 'states'. All guests are sent pre-arrival preference sheets to note any dietaries or special requests, such as caviar (at extra cost). Still, with two house Champagnes, a cellar of fine Australian wines, and a cocktail bar equipped with premium domestic and international liquors, there’s no need. Hawkins takes care of sunset cocktails and, come morning, fresh-squeezed juices and espresso coffees that would even pass muster in Melbourne. Galley-style bathrooms are stylish and textural with limestone floors, spotted gum benchtops, and sea views from showers.

The market and eatery have been in business since 1953, so it has had plenty of time to perfect how its fish is prepared and where it comes from. The current tasting menu begins with macadamia topped with rich caviar, caramelized shallot, and crisp, salty, nori. It is then followed by six additional courses, ranging from a fresh, herby dish named Nancy's Down East sea scallop to house-made dark chocolate, complete with notes of passion fruit and caramel. Also have a look at the top of this page, which is a general page on symbiosis and commensalism.

The dining space is located in a former juice bar that is bright and airy, despite its minimal square footage. It’s a scientific fact that food from the ocean tastes better if you eat it while looking at the ocean, and Malibu Seafood is one of our favorite places to do both. Owned and run by the fisherman who caught that piece of fish you’re about to put in your face, this little shack on PCH is here to provide you with all your beach-adjacent seafood needs. The menu is full of classics—squid and chips, steamed mussels, a peel-your-own shrimp plate—and the elevated patio is ideal for taking in the views.

Dear Bill,I have attached a scan of one of my slides of Ceratosoma trilobatum. After getting my slides processed I noticed that along with the shrimp, Periclimenes imperator, there is also a small fish apparently living happily. It is on the posterior edge of the left lateral lobe, slightly longer than the shrimp in a similar, head down pose. The fish is almost entirely transparent, the eyes being the most visible part, if you 'zoom in' it is possible to make out pectoral fins, the spine and a few bits of organs. It has gone to a lot of 'trouble' not to be noticed. Have you come across this before, and can you kindly tell me what fish it is? Is it commensal, the eyes could be said to match the yellow spots on the slug and it doesn't seem to be 'worried'?

Endoecism is a partnership in which one animal habitually shelters within the burrow or tube of another - shelter or protection is the dominate factor. If you have a look at the page on Solar Powered Sea Slugs you will find information on these animals and links to other pages with more information. But before I get too complicated, there are a number of very good examples of what we generally call 'symbiosis' found amongst the opisthobranchs. I would like to know more about symbiosis among species around us in more detail cause i have got a project to hand-over.

I would like to know if you could give me one or two examples of commensalistic symbiosis (where one member of the partnership benefits and the other is indifferent). If the weather closes in, there are board games, yoga, and cooking classes, an open bar (that’s an activity, surely?), and a TV the size of a small cinema screen. On the 30-minute helicopter commute from the northern Australian city of Townsville to Pelorus Private Island, sharp-eyed pilot Will Owens points to sharks and turtles in the coral-mottled seas below. The first Mariscos Jalisco was founded in 2002 and now has food trucks all over Los Angeles County. From Boyle Heights to La Cienega and Pomona, a delicious bite of seafood is never too far out of reach. Given its coastal location, Los Angeles is home to some of the best seafood in the nation. From fresh fish to golden-fried goodies, the seafood scene in LA is diverse and abundant. While seafood typically has a higher price point and is seen as a fancier food option, it is possible to enjoy it in a more casual and laid-back setting.

The Koshihikari rice entree is another crowd favorite that is built on a base of Japanese rice complemented by a chicken dashi broth, topped with shrimp, uni, and blue crab, and finished with a cage-free egg yolk. Make sure to round out your meal at Fishing With Dynamite with its famed Key lime pie. Luckily, Connie and Ted's has more real estate than most of the seafood shacks back east. The restaurant's spacious dining room is lined with bright wood, blue ceilings, and red chairs, and it has a sizable patio where diners can enjoy balmy Los Angeles afternoons. Grab a lobster roll, a few orders of sausage, breadcrumb, garlic-filled Stuffies, and Jo's Wicked Good Chowda', and you'll have a table of happy campers on your hands. Connie and Ted's also recently brought back brunch and serves up unique staples like the Maine lobster Croque Connie and the bucatini carbonara.

Connie and Ted's has made a name for themselves by bringing New England seafood staples to the sunny shores of the West Coast. The restaurant seeks to import the feel and the food of clam shacks and oyster bars that line the shores of Rhode Island. Connie and Ted's has tapped into a widespread craving for seafood classics, and since 2013, Angelenos have flocked en masse to the restaurant. The inventive menu at this Silver Lake mariscos spot and raw bar is filled with both traditional touches (toasted corn kernels in the tai snapper ceviche) and nontraditional ones (tangy yuzu-habañero sorbet in the yellowfin ceviche). For nearly 60 years, our integrity to maintain quality over price has afforded us to serve families across generations.

If you're looking to warm up on a cooler day, order the monkfish soup and soothe your soul from the inside out. Recommended by the Michelin Guide in 2019, Soban specializes in authentic Korean cuisine in the heart of LA's Koreatown. The female-led restaurant remains closely tied to Korean culture both through its food and its atmosphere. Though you'll find plenty of traditional meat-based recipes like braised beef short ribs, and bibimbap, the seafood dishes such as the soy sauce-marinated raw crab and braised black cod remain the most popular and legendary. After a temporary closure, Angler LA has reopened and re-established its place in the local seafood scene.

We will continue to honor her legacy with the great recipes that began in her kitchen and giving back to our community with the same values she shared. Umami tosazu sauce, acidic grapefruit, luxurious avocado, crisp radish sprouts, trout roe, and a slightly peppery nasturtium combine to craft an unforgettable bite. Malibu Seafood is a tiny shack on PCH that’s home to some of the best seafood on the coast. There are pictures at the top and answers to some other questions below. The nudibranch it is on is indeed a species of Nembrotha, which is at present unnamed. I was wondering if you could give me a couple of examples that exhibit endoecism.

If you’re looking to throw down for an incredible seafood meal, look no further than Providence. Served with rice, beans, escabeche, blue corn tortillas, three different salsas, and unlimited quesadillas (yes, really), it’s enough food for at least three hungry adults. We’d send you to Loreto just for that, but that’d be a shame—because then you’d miss out on the lobster and shrimp-topped esquites and carajillo-inspired chocolate cake. If you're looking to enjoy a taste of everything from the raw bar, order the Overboard Platter, which comes with a variety of oysters, prawns, crudo, and a sweet crab cocktail.

I-10 West Location Amenities

Even with the line that snakes through the parking lot on weekends, we can’t leave Malibu without stopping here. If you’ve ever driven down Jefferson Blvd in West Adams during the day, you might’ve noticed a corner shop covered in aquamarine murals. That’s Mel’s, a walk-up window that’s been serving cornmeal-crusted fried fish since 1995. The entire restaurant is about the size of a dorm room, but the menu is surprisingly stacked with Cajun-style seafood plates and soul food sides. We like to keep it simple and order a pound of golden-brown fried red snapper, which comes with two sides for just under $15.

From hand peeling our shrimp to cutting nearly 2,000 pounds of fish daily, we take pride in the dishes we offer, made with love and worth every penny. Providence helped shape Los Angeles' relationship with seafood and is one of the longest-standing fine dining restaurants in the city. Over the years, the restaurant's feel and menu have shifted, but its current iteration is framed by a lauded tasting menu that honors and expands upon the establishment's storied seafood legacy. The principle of sustainability is central to the dishes crafted by chef Michael Cimarusti and the Providence team. All of its seafood is wild-caught, and the vast majority of it is sourced from local waters. Holbox is a seafood stand where fresh ingredients and simple preparations allow simplicity to shine.

Dear Erik,I'm pretty sure the shrimp is Periclimenes imperator which is a common commensal of nudibranchs and some sea cucumbers. Over 200 species of the pontoniine shrimps have been reported from the Indo-West Pacific. All seem to have a commensal relationship with other animals ranging from sea anemones and starfish to sea slugs. The aeolids 'steal' these zooxanthellae and keep them alive in their own bodies much like the sacoglossans. However, there are also tons of tourist traps that might boast an ocean view but lack quality and consistency. Thankfully, we've rounded up some of our favorite seafood-centric spots all over the city.

Morris insisted on a classic teppanyaki bar, so Logan has been busy honing his hotplate skills with teriyaki-grilled Tasmanian sirloin and jumbo shrimp. For the full Morihiro experience, guests can indulge in a multi-course omakase menu that is shaped by a commitment to seasonal sushi. Guests can also order the seasonal bento box, which offers a beautifully arranged selection of the restaurant's fish, produce, and side dishes, including Morihiro's famed rice. The elegant, jewel-box-inspired space looks straight out of New England, and if you're a fan of wine or bubbles, you'll definitely want to kick back with a glass (or a bottle). Found Oyster serves up raw and cooked seafood, ensuring that every kind of diner is catered to. If you're looking to add some more shellfish to your plate, Fishing With Dynamite's Maryland blue crab cake, house-brined dill pickles, and a whole grain mustard remoulade combine to create a crisp yet decadent appetizer.

Its menu is handwritten daily and determined by the freshest in-season fish that the Crudo e Nudo team can find. Most dishes are served on ceramic plates created at a local pottery studio. And, each glass of wine stocking the restaurant's shelves has been hand-selected and vetted to ensure low intervention production practices.

The sea urchin service is a one-of-a-kind offering for fans of uni, and the caviar service takes luxury to the next level. The lobster bisque roll is a popular cooked entree that is full of flavor and can even be topped with caviar for a next-level experience. The king crab legs are also a must-order if you prefer fresh seafood, as are the steamed clams. Sit back and enjoy your feast as you take in the epic ocean views and watch groups of bikers come and go down the highway. Broad Street Oyster Co. is a laid-back yet modern seafood stand located in the heart of Malibu.

Functional Wooden Boomerang: 8 Steps With Pictures : 9 Steps with Pictures

boomerang design

For foam, all you'll need is a craft knife and some sandpaper to make one. However, if you're looking to keep your boomerang for longer without it wearing out, plywood is a great option. The following techniques in this article apply to both these materials. This is the same thing that is happening in a boomerang.

Step 8: Finish

Anthropologists believe it was mostly a matter of trial and error. Boomerangs probably came about through a trial and error process. Eric Darnell throws his latest creation, the Scimitar--a foam boomerang with LED lights.

Making Time Contest

To get the trailing edge airfoil shape, hold the boomerang at a shallow angle as you pass it over the bench sander. If you're using a rasp, file, or sanding block, simply clamp it to a table whilst you work. Pass the sandpaper over the edges at a shallow angle to establish an airfoil shape.

How This Guy Became a Pizza Spinning World Champion

The tri-wing boomerang is easy to make and it actually comes back. I chose this design because it is ideal for small yards like mine due to its shorter flight path as opposed to traditional styles of boomerangs. Other styles of boomerangs are made with the exact same steps, the only difference being the shape. I have found the tri-wing boomerang is this easiest to type of boomerang to make come back to your exact position because it has less distance to travel and thus less wind to contend with.

Art History Timelines

Aim the boomerang up and down the sideline of the field. Practice and repetition help you find the proper throw to improve performance. Once the wood is selected, it needs to be cut and shaped using tools such as saws, sanders, and chisels before being sanded smooth. When it comes to making a boomerang woodworking, choosing the right type of wood is crucial for the performance and durability of the final product. Different types of wood have distinct characteristics that can impact the flight and overall functionality of the boomerang.

You could also carve your boomerang, but I do not have the patience for that. In this lesson we use what we have learned about Aboriginal art to create our own designs for decorative boomerangs. Modern boomerang tournaments usually involve some or all of the events listed below[33][34][better source needed] In all disciplines the boomerang must travel at least 20 metres (66 ft) from the thrower. The thrower stands at the centre of concentric rings marked on an open field. Ad a few layers of polyurethane to finish the boomerang.

Aboriginal Art Lesson - Boomerang Designs

This process not only smoothens out any rough edges but also adds a polished look to the boomerang. To achieve this, you will need sandpaper with varying grits, ranging from coarse to fine, as well as a finish such as varnish or lacquer. The aerofoil-shaped section must face the inside of the thrower, and the flatter side outwards.

In this article, we will explore the art of creating a boomerang woodworking, from choosing the right materials and tools to adding distinguishing features and testing its flight. Today's long-distance boomerangs have almost all an S or ? – question mark shape and have a beveled edge on both sides (the bevel on the bottom side is sometimes called an undercut). Lift must be low because the boomerang is thrown with an almost total layover (flat).

Everybody knows boomerangs - that Australian toy that comes back to you when thrown. But is it really possible to create one of these marvels and have it work? This is certainly not the first instructable about making boomerangs, but I've been making boomerangs for a while now, and wanted to share my experience with everyone. If you're thinking to make one to add to your weapons arsenal, I'll have to disappoint you.

There are even pro tours, which date back to 1985, when 10,000 screaming Parisian fans watched U.S. Boomerang Team members Chet Snouffer, Barnaby Ruhe, Peter Ruhf and Darnell set records. With this generation, Boomerang Design is creating opportunities for ALL to excel in their personal and professional goals. By elevating diverse perspectives, defining career pathways for female leaders, and creating meaningful opportunities for our people to engage with the community. Meet the leaders who are stepping up to champion these initiatives.

The grooves also form hollows that -- like the dimples on a golfball -- create a blunt airfoil, which increases lift. Darnell has himself set world records for endurance (43 catches in 5 minutes) and maximum time aloft (1 minute and 44 seconds). He says he isn't into the sport for the money, although he admits, "I make many happy returns."

Outside of competitions, the definition is not so strict, and throwers may be happy simply not to walk too far to recover the boomerang. Ideally, the hover will allow a practiced catcher to clamp their hands shut horizontally on the boomerang from above and below, sandwiching the centre between their hands. When you think you removed enough wood, sand the boomerang a bit smoother (especially if you used a wood rasp, to get rid of those nasty marks). Use the coarse sandpaper first, then switch to medium grit.

The uneven force caused by the difference in speed between the two wings applies a constant force at the top of the spinning boomerang, which is actually felt at the leading side of the spin. So, like a leaning bicycle wheel, the boomerang is constantly turning to the left or right, so that it travels in a circle and comes back to its starting point. When a boomerang won't soar, he adds extra weight here, shaves a wing there or drills a hole somewhere else to improve flight characteristics. Homemade boomerangs are the kind of toy that adds a lot of extra fun to an afternoon, both in the making and the throwing. You need to be careful throwing one (lots of open space required), but making a boomerang (as opposed to buying one) brings an extra measure of joy to the venture. Over the years I’ve made some very effective boomerangs from 1/4″-thick hardwood plywood, and you can, too.

Arvia offers Inside (windowless), Outside (ocean-facing with a window), Balcony cabins and Suites, including 28 Single cabins and 32 of the new Conservatory Mini-Suites, which were introduced on sister ship Iona. These have proved hugely popular as a midway cabin option -- they're pricier than a regular balcony room, but cheaper than a higher-category suite. At the heart of Arvia's deck plan is the all-new and lighter Grand Atrium with three-storey glass walls filling the space with bright, widescreen sea views. Arvia also has the first rum distillery at sea as well as two new restaurants, 6th Street Diner and Green & Co.

In August 2017, Azura became the world's first cruise ship to perform gay weddings at sea. For comparison, Cunard’s shipboard weddings cost starts at ~GBP 2570 (RMS Queen Mary 2) and ~GBP 2120 (Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth). On MS Azura, gay wedding ceremonies are carried out by the ship’s Captain, while marriage licenses are issued by Bermuda's Government (as the vessel is registered in Hamilton Bermuda). Arvia has more than 30 bars and restaurants, but whereas sister ship Iona has four main dining rooms, Arvia only has two. One is the included 6th Street Diner -- a hugely popular all-American diner with a gourmet Southern twist.

P&O UK ships Arcadia and Aurora are currently marketed as adult-only. While there are some cabins on Deck 16 (the same level as the Horizon buffet) the vast majority of staterooms are located on Decks 9 to 15.
